VATH Tunes Old E63, Still Silly Quick
At the very moment all eyes are focused on Mercedes’ new E63 AMG Wagon, German tuner VATH has decided…to tune the outgoing model.
While this may seem anachronistic, for those who currently own a
W211-series AMG Wagon but won’t be upgrading anytime soon, VATH’s timing
is perfect. Why buy the next generation Merc battlewagon when you can
make your current wagon even faster? While the new W212 E63 has a
“healthy” 525hp, VATH’s creation packs nearly sixty more horses.
Yet
increasing the horsepower and torque (to 568 lb-ft) of the E is just
part of VATH’s performance formula. A retuned ECU is a major reason for
the power boost, but also increases throttle responsiveness and
efficiency. To help the 6.2L hand-built V8 exhale easier, VATH has
fitted less restrictive exhaust manifolds and an entirely new stainless
steal performance exhaust system with high-flow cats. As power
increases, for the health and longevity of the driver, so too must the
ability of the brakes. To this end, VATH has fitted beefy 390mm brake
discs with 6-piston calipers. 20 inch charcoal wheels shod with 245 and
285mm rubber (front and rear, respectively) accommodate the larger
brakes.
Like
all good German tuning packages, the VATH E63 AMG Wagon comes with its
fair share of styling modifications. Carbon fiber front and rear
diffusers serve both to improve looks and aerodynamic down force. The
interior is also adorned with carbon fiber trim and upholstered with
alcantara throughout.
For
those out there who may be disappointed with VATH’s tuning efforts on
the W212 AMG Wagon, have patience, for their new W212 package should be
unveiled anyday now.
